Terms of Use
Welcome to Mabel.Pet โ the pet health-record app. These terms are a plain-language agreement between you and Mabel.Pet ("we", "us") about using the app. By creating an account you agree to them. If you don't agree, please don't use the app.
1. What Mabel.Pet is
Mabel.Pet is a tool for keeping your pet's health records โ vaccinations, weights, medications, appointments, notes, photos and documents โ in one place, and for sharing them with people you choose, such as a co-owner, pet sitter or vet.
Mabel.Pet is a record-keeping and reference tool only. It is not a veterinary service and does not provide veterinary advice, diagnosis or treatment. Any educational content, reminder, or health nudge in the app is general information, not advice about your specific pet. Always rely on a qualified veterinarian for your pet's care, and seek veterinary help promptly for any concerning or urgent sign.
2. Your account
You need an account to use the app. Keep your login details secure โ you're responsible for activity under your account. Tell us promptly if you think someone else has accessed it. You must be at least 16 years old, or have a parent or guardian's consent, to create an account.
3. Your content
The records, photos and documents you add are yours. You keep ownership of them. You grant us permission to store and process them only as needed to run the app for you โ for example, to sync them across your devices and show them to people you've shared a pet with.
You're responsible for what you upload: make sure you have the right to store it, and that it's accurate. We don't check or verify records for medical correctness.
4. Sharing and transferring pets
You can invite others to view or help manage a pet, and you can transfer a copy of a pet's profile to another account (for example, when a rescue rehomes an animal). When you share or transfer, you're choosing to give that person access to that information. Only share with people you trust. People you've shared with have their own separate accounts and their own obligations under these terms.
Assisted transfers (for example, if an owner dies or can no longer manage their account): in genuine cases we may, at our discretion, help move a pet's records to another person โ such as a co-owner, family member or new carer. We may ask for reasonable proof (for example, that the account holder has passed away and that you're entitled to receive the records) before we do this, and we may decline where we're not satisfied it's appropriate. We aren't obliged to carry out these transfers, and where possible it's better to add a co-owner in advance so records can pass on without our involvement.
You can also create a public record link โ a web page showing a pet's shared records that opens without an account, for a vet, a kennel or a sitter. When you create it you choose whether it also opens the files attached to those records; that choice can't be changed afterwards, so make a new link if you change your mind. A link works for anyone who has it, so send it only to people you trust, and turn it off when it's no longer needed. It stops working by itself after two weeks.
Records added by a vet or clinic: when you share a pet with a vet or clinic, they may add notes, recommendations and records to that pet's timeline. These entries are shown as added by them. You can view them and, if you wish, delete them from your own copy โ but you can't edit them, because they're the vet's record of what they observed or advised. If you delete a vet-added entry, it's removed from your timeline and can't be recovered. Neither Mabel.Pet nor the vet or clinic is liable for any entry you choose to delete, or for anything that follows from it being deleted. If you need a vet-added record kept, don't delete it, and speak to your vet if you think it's wrong.
5. Adopting from a rescue
If you adopt an animal from a rescue organisation that uses Mabel, the rescue sends a copy of that animal's shared health records - and the files attached to them - into your account. You become responsible for your copy, and it's yours to keep, change or delete.
The two records are separate from the moment of transfer. Nothing the rescue adds afterwards appears in your copy, and nothing you record comes back to the rescue. The rescue keeps its own complete copy of the animal's time in care, including your contact details, for its records - for example so it can reach you if a health issue emerges in a littermate.
You don't receive everything the rescue holds. Records the rescue marked private, its internal team notes, its diary and its intake paperwork stay with the organisation.
The transfer uses the email address the rescue enters, so it must be the address of the account you'll use. If an adoption falls through, the rescue can return the animal to its own care records, but your copy stays on your account until you delete it.
6. Plans, trials and payment
Some features require a paid plan. Current pricing is shown in the app. On the website, prices are in Australian dollars; if your card was issued outside Australia, your bank converts the amount and may add its own foreign transaction fee โ that fee is your bank's, not ours. In the App Store, Apple shows the price in your own storefront's currency. New accounts may include a free trial. If a trial requires payment details up front, we will tell you clearly before you start, including when the first charge happens and how to cancel โ and you can cancel any time before the trial ends to avoid being charged. Paid plans are billed yearly. You can cancel or change your plan at any time; cancellation stops future charges and your access continues until the end of the period you've paid for. We don't give refunds for partial periods except where required by law. On iPhone, plans are bought through the App Store as auto-renewable subscriptions: Apple takes the payment, the subscription renews automatically at the price shown unless you cancel at least 24 hours before the end of the period, and it is managed and cancelled in your iPhone's Settings โ Apple Account โ Subscriptions โ not in the app, and not by deleting your account. Refunds for App Store purchases are handled by Apple under its terms. A plan bought on the website or through the App Store works everywhere you use Mabel.Pet with the same account.
If your plan lapses, your account becomes read-only: you keep access to view and export everything, but adding and editing are paused until you renew. We don't delete your data because a plan lapsed.
7. Availability
We work to keep the app running well, but we can't promise it will always be available or error-free. We may update, change or pause features. We'll try to give notice of significant changes where we reasonably can.
8. Your consumer rights
Nothing in these terms excludes rights you have under the Australian Consumer Law, or under any other law that applies to you and can't be excluded โ if you're a consumer outside Australia, you may also have protections under the law where you live. Where we're allowed to limit our liability, we limit it to resupplying the service or refunding what you paid. To the extent the law allows, we aren't liable for indirect or consequential loss, or for decisions made about a pet's care โ those should always be made with a vet.
9. Ending your use
You can stop using the app and delete your account and data at any time from Settings. One exception protects shared pets: if a pet you own has a co-owner, deleting your account hands that pet (and its records and files) to the co-owner instead of deleting it, so a shared pet's health history isn't destroyed. If you'd rather it be deleted, remove the co-owner's access first. Deleting your account ends a subscription bought on the website straight away, and the unused part of the year isn't refunded; an App Store subscription is cancelled in your iPhone's Settings, not by deleting your account. We may suspend or close an account that misuses the app or breaches these terms.
We may also delete an account that has had no paid plan and no activity for three years. We'll email the address on the account at least six months before that happens, so you can sign in to keep it or download a copy of your records first. Accounts with a shared pet aren't deleted this way.
10. Changes to these terms
We may update these terms. If we make a material change, we'll take reasonable steps to let you know. Continuing to use the app after a change means you accept the updated terms.
11. Which law applies
Mabel.Pet is operated from Victoria, Australia. These terms are governed by the laws of Victoria, and the courts of Victoria have non-exclusive jurisdiction over any dispute about them. If you're a consumer somewhere else, this doesn't remove any protection you have under the law where you live that can't be excluded by agreement.
